If you are thinking about starting your own website, but are under the impression that the work is simply too complicated or expensive, don't worry.  Been there, done that!!

In this section, I want to explain to you about metatags and why many websites fail to use them properly as part of search engine optimization.   The information here is taken from my manual Easywebsite101, which covers everything in much more detail and gives you step-by-step instructions on how to actually optimize your website for the search engines.

• Many professionally designed websites do not include metatags due to their insignificance.
  Fact:  Meta tags have been used and abused by many so-called "professionals" and even though their importance is often times questioned, it is still smart to use them if you want to optimize your website.  In case you have never heard of meta tags, they are pieces of encoding that can be added to make a webpage stand out and also help the search engines.
  
  There are 4 basic types of common meta tags:
  
  Webpage Title - As the name applies, the title is simple the heading of the webpage.  Note that the title is not necessary the file name.  For example, if you go to my homepage, you will see the title in very top part of your screen.
  
  Description - The description is designed to give the search engines as idea of what your page is about.  If you look at the search results, you will often notice that the results show the domain name and a brief statement.
  
  Keywords - The keywords are the words that you want the search engines to focus on.  The keyword meta tags have lost most of their importance after the search engines realized that SEO companies were manipulating webpages and keywords, but they are still important.
  
  Picture description - The meta tags imbedded in the pictures allow you to describe the pictures to the search engines, which is extremely important for a successful search engine optimization strategy.
  
  If you want to rank high in the search engines, make sure that you apply all of the meta tags in a keyword specific manner, and if you combine all of the steps I have shared with you so far, you will see an improvement in the ranking of your website.  Meta tags, like all of the other steps that I have mentioned, will not guarantee a top ranking, but when you combine all of the proper steps, you can succeed as I and many of my clients already have.
