• You need to make sure that your website is designed properly. NO FRAMES!!
  Fact:  If you look at the top results in any search engine, you will typically find websites that are typically designed with the search engines in mind.  The two common methods of designing websites in through the use of frames and tables.  Most high ranking websites do not use frames, since the search engines can not see past them.  Avoid frames at all cost.
   

• Small websites rarely ever rank high.
  Fact: Again, if you look at top ranking websites, you will typically find that they have lots of information in many pages. If your site only has a few webpages and mine has dozens or hundreds, which one do you think the search engines will consider to be more important?
   

• Add lots of information with the search engines in mind.
  Fact: Your site needs to have lots of information, but the manner in which it is presented is also very important. Some websites have a ton of great information, but it is added in such a way that it confuses the search engines.  You need to apply your information properly and then add lots of it.
   

• Proper Meta tags matter.
  Fact: One of the things that I have noticed in many of the websites that I have helped optimize is that the meta tags are often missing or used incorrectly.  The Meta tags are there for the search engines benefit, so make sure you are using them.  Also, some sites have the same Meta tags in every webpage, which again is poor web design.
   

• You got to take care of your pictures.
  Fact:  All of my optimized websites get top ranking in the image results and it's not by chance.  If you want to your webpages and images to rank high in the search results, then you must optimize the pictures as well.  The SEO scumbags don't want you to know this, but pictures are extremely important.
   

• Proper file and picture names.
  Fact:  I constantly see websites where the webpages and pictures are not named properly. This again is part of optimizing a website for the search engines, so make sure that they are taken care off.
   

• Avoid shady SEO techniques.
  Fact:  One of the SEO companies that I paid $2100 used a method that almost got me banned from the search engines entirely.  The same goes with link farms and other steps that the search engine frown on.  Most websites are optimized using proper methods and the search engines do after those who try to cheat.  Just search for "website got banned" and you'll be busy for weeks.  Don't get screwed like I did.
   

• Use free SEO tools that are readily available for everyone to use.
  Fact:  For example, Google alone offers a whole arsenal of tools that you can use, whether it is to track your traffic or to see how your site ranks. The only SEO tool that I pay for is my traffic monitoring program, which cost me a whopping $3 per month.  Other than that, all the SEO tools that I use and recommend are free.
   

• Get rid of the extra "Junk".
  Fact:  Many website use fancy graphics, pop-ups, flash videos, and other stuff that the search engines absolute hate.  The search engines are like meat and potato guys and don't care for all of the unnecessary stuff.  The key is substance, not encoding.
